To measure your horse, you will need:

  • A tape measure
  • A way to document the measurements you take (paper and pen or a smartphone)

Step One Measure Your Horses Forehead

Measure from the outer corner of the left eye to the outer corner of the right eye. Do not take this measurement by actually moving over your horses eyes, this measurement needs to be taken from above one eye across the forehead to the other eye.

Step Two Measure Your Horses Head Length

For this measurement, start in between your horses ears (poll) and then straight down his or her nose to the top lip.

You also need to measure from your horses poll down the center of the face to his or her mid-nostril area.

Step Three Measure Around Your Horses Face and Jaw

From the left side of your horses face (at the jaw) move across the top to the right side of his or her jaw.

Step Four Measure Each Side of Your Horses Neck

Begin measuring at approximately 2 inches behind your horses ear: Measure from this point to your horses outer jaw. Do this on each side of his or her neck.
